Can I see a photo of your Radio replacement / Back-up Camera?

Post by Millennial Falcon »

I just bought a 1995 B190, and am realizing it would be VERY beneficial to have a back-up camera.

Several people have posted their choices on the boards here, but... can you show me a photo of your cockpits? I'd like to see what some of these units look like installed.

I've looked at back-up cameras built into radios (which versions fit well in our B190s though?) and I've seen on Amazon these new units that hide a back-up camera display INSIDE the rearview mirror, which seems ideal! Has anyone installed one like that?

A final note on radios... am I missing a switch somewhere to run the radio off the Coach battery instead of leaving my key on in the ignition? Or will I need to re-wire the radio a little if I want to do that?

I believe they were all wired to the engine electrical system, like any car would be. I rewired mine to the coach battery, which does mean it doesn't automatically shut off when I turn off the ignition while on the road, so that takes some getting used to. (When I was buying mine back, I forgot about this rewiring, and I saw it stay on, and was like, "Oh, man, why is it doing tha...oh, right.") But leaving it on while I'm getting lunch doesn't hurt, either. I liked not having to worry about running down the engine battery with the radio, and not having to fumble with the keys to use it!

Well why didn't I think of that? Thanks skater.
I was thinking of putting another stereo in the back just because of the hassle of the keys and draw on the chassis battery. My original house battery is under the hood but not hooked up to anything but the alternator two group 31's took it place under the couch. By hooking the stereo to the old house battery gives it a purpose.
Thanks for the idea

Hi,

I bought the backup camera below and wired it to the inside of the car in the back along the passenger side wall. At first I was going to mount it on the fiberglass top pointing downwards but having the camera inside the car was a good compromise so I didn't have to put another hole in the shell. This particular camera actually records from both the front and back cameras while you drive.

I have a Garmin 770. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/570074

It has a wireless, add-on backup camera feature. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/501486

The cool thing is you can add several camera to the main unit, so in addition to the rear camera, I added another forward camera to see the front bumper. Might sound crazy but it really helps maximize available space when pulling into parking spots and 3-point turns.
