Keep the water inside the pipes, tanks, and sinks

Water draining out of open tube when pump is running

Post by nanook »

[image][/image]I am in the process of dewinterizing my 96 B190. When I turn the pump on to flush the antifreeze, water pours out of the underside of the van, under the hot water tank. It is coming out of an open grey flexible tubing like the rest of the water lines. I’ve had the van for several years but never encountered this problem. Did I lose a fitting?

I have attached a pic of the open tube.

Should be a valve inside, behind the water heater, that you need to turn off. It's a low point drain for winterizing.

I tried opening and closing that valve with no luck. Perhaps that valve broke over the winter….

Very possible. Hopefully not, since they used polybutelene, which is hard to find parts for, or at least hopefully you can repair the valve.

The Qest fittings supposedly work, but they are larger, too. I've had to do a few conversions to Pex in my trailer; Home Depot sells a Polybutelene-to-Pex converter sharkbite fitting. (I keep an extra one in the trailer, just in case I have an issue on a trip and need one...I figure I can get the other Pex fittings I'd need anywhere, but it'd be just my luck there's no HD nearby, or they'd be out of them.)
